Wellbeing Framework, Action Plan & Tools

Wellness in Infrastructure (WII) acknowledges the significant challenges the construction industry faces regarding mental health and suicide risk, driven by complex factors. These challenges contribute to poor physical health and some of the highest rates of mental health issues among employees in the Australian construction sector.

In collaboration with the Culture in Construction Taskforce Working Group (CICT WG), WII drew on its industry expertise, statistical analysis, and extensive network of industry volunteers to support the development and refinement of the Wellbeing Pillar of the Culture in Construction (CIC) Standard.

Recognising the critical importance of the CIC Standard, WII has remained committed to advocating for and promoting its significance within the industry. While this initiative focused on shaping the wellbeing pillar, WII continues to provide long-term support, ensuring the industry benefits from the work completed by CICT and reinforcing the lasting impact of the CIC Standard.

What does our future hold when younger generations choose to opt-out of a career in the infrastructure industry? WII’s 2023 Industry Survey revealed young professionals aged 20 – 24 are experiencing severe anxiety at rates three times the norm, so our Young Professionals Group is working hard on initiatives to improve the status quo.

Emporer Mentoring Program

Based on the success of the 2023 pilot program, the WII Mentoring Program aims to support existing leaders in enhancing their mentoring skills and knowledge. This program encourages them to share their experiences and wisdom with high-potential emerging leaders who are looking to strengthen their resilience and influence as mentees.

Industry Leaders Education

Change starts with the leaders in our industry, and it is vital to evaluate their knowledge, skills, and motivation to lead this transformation effectively. Led by the Working Group, this initiative seeks to identify and develop educational programs tailored for industry leaders, focusing on the critical areas of mental health and wellbeing.
