Cultural Change is a Team Sport: Insights from Our Volunteer Network

At Wellness in Infrastructure, we know that meaningful cultural change doesn’t happen in isolation. Cultural change is a team sport.

Our volunteer network plays a critical role in this, providing a direct connection to industry through lived experience. They bring real insight into the challenges we are working to address and ensure our work remains practical, relevant and grounded.

What Wellness Means in Practice

We asked our volunteers to complete the sentence… “To me, wellness means…”

While responses varied, three consistent themes emerged:

Balance. Support. Connection.

  • Balance reflects the need to sustainably manage work and life demands
  • Support highlights the importance of strong systems, leadership and environments
  • Connection underscores the role of relationships, trust and understanding

These themes reinforce that wellbeing is not a single initiative, it is shaped by everyday behaviours, workplace culture, systems and how people interact.

Why Connection Matters Most

Of these themes, connection stands out as the enabler.

Connection drives:

  • Stronger teams and collaboration
  • Early support and intervention
  • A sense of belonging and psychological safety
  • More effective and sustainable culture change

Without connection, policies and programs struggle to translate into real impact.

From Insight to Action

Our volunteer working group exists to strengthen this connection across the industry.

It brings together professionals from different roles, organisations and experiences, creating a space to share insights, contribute to solutions, and actively shape a better future for infrastructure.

Get Involved

If you are looking to make a meaningful contribution to industry change, we encourage you to get involved. Volunteering is an opportunity to:

  • Contribute to real, practical change
  • Connect with like-minded professionals
  • Balance your day-to-day work with purpose-driven impact

Because improving wellbeing in our industry requires collective effort. Cultural change is a team sport, and there is a role for everyone.
